In order to show my support for palestine, I thought I would make a post— in typical bird nerd fashion— highlighting some information about one of the many symbols of freedom for the palestinian people: the palestine sunbird.

you’ve seen this bird everywhere lately I’m sure,

so, you may be wondering.. why is this bird so important?

image

In 2013, Israel campaigned to remove ‘palestine’ from the bird’s name. this failed, however, when the palestine wildlife society (PWS) petitioned to instead adopt it as palestine’s national bird as a direct defiance of the campaign.

in 2015, the palestine sunbird was officially declared the national bird of palestine.

the palestinian artist khaled jarrar designed a border control stamp featuring the sunbird with which he stamped passports as a cry for freedom.

image

more recently, khaled jarrar has also created these postal stamps for the same message— in defiance of israel’s efforts to erase palestine.

image

here you can find an incredible, short documentary detailing his work across the years to use his art as a protest against the plight of the palestinian people.

image

another palestinian artist, rasha eleyan, uses the sunbird in her work as a motif for the strength and boldness of palestinian women:

(source)

the palestinian poet tamim al-barghouti has tied the palestine sunbird’s beauty to resilience, in saying: “whenever you face injustice or roughness, remember to defend yourself by finding beauty… document, prove, and defend it because all beauty is resistance.”

the palestine sunbird is a symbol of hope and strength. It’s a symbol of fighting back against the odds and refusal to go quietly into the night— refusal to be erased.

continue to support palestinian artists.

continue to support palestine.

raise the voices of those who now, more than ever, need to be heard.

from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.

Proceeds are donated to the UNRWA, which is one of the major funding agencies providing aid to Palestine. Recently, the US and other major countries have escalated genocidal efforts by cutting funding from the UNRWA, as AlJazzera reports : Which countries have cut funding to the UNRWA and why?

This is a direct action you can take to say fuck you to the government directed genocidal efforts, bookmark the tab, add a calendar notification daily, do what you want. Or if your prefer: Donate Directly to UNRWA

I see a lot of ‘cis’ women say they wish they were androgynous in the way men were or they wish they were pretty in the way men were. This is your sign to go try to do that. You may find you enjoy being an androgynous woman. You may find you no longer identify as a woman. You may find you don’t like androgyny. You will not know until you try. Cut your hair if you’ve always wanted to but have been afraid to. Shop in the men’s section if you’ve been too nervous to. Wear clothing with an androgynous silhouette. Experiment with binding, take baby steps with compression bras if you want. Wear unisex scents. Live life. Try things you want to try. A lot of cis women do not understand the joys of mens pants and mens deodorant. I think everyone should try both of those things.

#much more comfortable being a woman when I realised it literally doesn’t have to mean anything
#unlock cis+ it’s good for you]

Trans people don’t own gender. We stole it the way Prometheus stole fire, so it would be available to everyone.

Anonymous asked:

The UNRWA is concerned that if they do not receive more funding they will run out by the end of February please spread this message

stil-lindigo:

in case any of you missed it, despite the ICJ’s ruling for Israel to facilitate MORE aid into Gaza, the global west has responded by cutting funding to UNWRA, which is responsible for delivering significant amounts of aid into Gaza, as well as surrounding areas such as Lebanon. The countries cutting funding consist of the US, Australia, the UK, the Netherlands, Swritzerland, Italy, Germany, Finland, Canada and Japan. This was all due to a claim by Israel that members of UNWRA were Hamas-members or sympathisers which, at the end of the day, is a claim that concerns only 12 members in a total of 30,000.

Without proper funding, UNWRA is likely to run out of resources by February of this year (only another month) and urges the countries that have suspended donations to reconsider. This is a blatant move from the colonialist countries of this world to starve Palestinians even further when they are already facing unforeseen levels of famine.

Please take some time out of your day to call your reps, your political leaders and urge them to restart their funding. In the meantime, here is a link to donate to the UNWRA.

I just want to reiterate. It’s great that y'all are following Palestinians and indigenous people and reblogging from us and boosting our voices. But the goal isn’t just to be spoonfed information. Educating yourself means you need to pick up a book from the many many reading lists put together for you by Palestinians and read articles from diverse sources. You need to be doing that. Please tell me you are doing that, too, not just reblogging from us and calling it a day.

We try to fact check and be thorough but we get tired too.

Plugging my masterpost again.

Yes it’s huge. But all you have to do is pick ONE resource from ONE medium.

Y'all, this Sudanese family only has less than $400 left remaining of a campaign to support them. I am begging y'all not to forget the people of Sudan. Even if you can't afford to personally donate, please just RT & share out so it's seen by scores of eyes!ALT
Amidst Palestinian struggle, the situation in Sudan is still getting worst. This family (that i care about so much) continue to find ways to leave. Funds raised were used to sustain their life in Sudan, we are yet to meet our goal to get them to leave.ALT

They are very close! Those who can support and share for this family in Sudan right now, here is the link:

Also, post-editing me, I think there was a typo in the re-tweet -they’re still $4K short -wishing all the best for this family!

If you’re on Windows 11 like I am for my “main” computer (in my case for school purposes and because I can’t get Baldur’s Gate 3 to play on Linux), then you might’ve seen this annoying piece of AI shit show up on your taskbar:

image

This is Windows Copilot, and it’s fulled by the same shit ChatGPT is fuelled by. There is currently no way to uninstall it, but there is a way to deactivate it completely, which I’ve linked below. It’s very easy, and it took me like, 2 minutes to do.

A painting of a kite. The kite is in the shape of a watermelon slice; the white of the rind is the shape of a white bird. The kite is flying over a sandy beach, with waves lapping from the bottom. The shadow of the string of the kite takes the form of rivers in the sand, leading to the sea. On the painting, the poem "If I Must Die" by Professor Refaat Alareer is printed in both English and Arabic.ALT
